:huh:I've got a 1999 gti 20valve which has seized on me other day and the timing jumped .... Now I've located a conmplete 1.8T buying whole car (write off) and planning on swapping the engine into mine....my engine is the AGN and the turbo engine is the AGU out off 1998.... The engines look identical apart the inlet mani and exhaust mani and obviously the internals now I'm wondering is it just a case of droppin the new engine in and plugging it in and changing the ecu etc or will I have to change whole loom??? Does anybody know if the 1.8 20v loom and wiring to engine are same on both cars???? Has anyone done it? I've got a mate who's converted a 1.6 to a 1.8t but had change whole loom now he sayin as the both 1.8 20v's they should be the same any info on this would greatly appreciated thanks dan

should be the same as the 1.8 is the same as a 1.8t basically except the fact it doesent have a turbo.

though could imagine there may be a few bits of the loom you may need to splice into the 1.8n/a loom

though couldnt be certain as ive never done it

anks for reply mate..... That's is what I was thinking maybe thing like boost pressure sensors etc will have to spliced in that is ofcourse if it has them hopefully it won't and straight forward fit I was thinking I might do a photo guide of the transplant and post it on here  to help others out maybe

You will need to change the engine bay loom and ecu, exhaust plus much more.

Have you checked the insurance btw.

Ye the ecu , control unit in the roof for central locking, key reader on ignition barrel, as I said I've got the whole car so anything I need is there for me already, but as far as I'm aware you can't split the loom the whole car is one thing so if that's the case its the whole interior out lol that's why I was asking if anybody knew weather my 1.8 engine bay loom would fit 1.8t.... Anymore info would be much apprciated

I was thinking maybe boost pressure sensors amd stuff to do with that? But if at all plugs in and nowt missing I'm thinking of just sending my ecu off to be remapped for a turbo....that way I can still use my original key can't I.... The car is coming today and will have both engines out by tonite hopefully and will compare looms etc the AGU engine that's going in has stage 2 remap ecu, 800cc injectors and a bigger turbo and producing 243 bhp or so I was told by its owner oh its a forged crank but he did say all AGU's have a forged crank  and reply to waynes question I'm fully comp on trade insurance can drive anything upto value 50K so just let them know av done it and that's that

As I said before no it and the ecu will not work, you need to change the engine bay loom and ecu to the 1.8t set up.

I think you will / may also need change the driveshafts and exhaust.

I'm sure he said both wiring looms needs to be changed because that's what he did. He would be me by the way
Ecu and wiring loom need changing.
Also it's a bit of a hassle to bench flash the ecu depending what map file it is because of the way some companies now encrypt their file and write immobiliser code onto the 29f400/800 EPROM chip. So even though galleto can write onto me3 ecu over obd2 now with 12v feed it is still more hassle than it's worth. Just change ecu with matching clock and map it after you get it running.
The wiring loom between the non tubo and turbo are quite different, you got the n75 on the 1.8t regardless of engine code some wires need extending.

Just noticed you signed off as dan, i might have been mistaken unless your using an alias.
