Another R
« on: 02 October 2011, 10:04 »
Folks,

Here it is:

Rudolph???

Sorry about the quality. I'll add some more pictures tomorrow.

5-door, DSG, rising blue, ACC, storage pack, lux pack, Dynaudio, RVC, 18" - that's it.

For some reasons despite all the extra weight it doesnt feel heavier - actually the opposite. The engine is different, you can feel it - at 2000 revs there's no torque. 6th gear up the hill at 40 and was almost rolling backwords. Had to downshift.

The exhaust note is very nice, heavier, but still no Subaru drone. Cabin noise great, no rattles!!!

I can see they've improved tiny details from GTI, starting from adding rubber bands to the parcel shelf plastic clips (to stop rattles) to changing the material on the door cards. On GTI it was cloth, now it's leather/fake leather. Armrest is the same. Little nice touches.
Some changes to the sat-nav. Voice command is now standard and music can be played directly from BT source (smartphone).

Overall very impressed. Very impressed.

See you on the road!

Welcome to the R club, really nice colour as well  I hope you enjoy it. I know what you mean about there being no torque below 2K. It also seems to find 6th gear at 35mph!

Some ed30 owners used to say the same thing... it simply boils down to the bigger turbo. I hear a remap really helps

The leather on the door panels and arm rest is this normal on the R? As i have seen misbuilds on other golfs were the door panels have been leather as there assembled elsewere on the production line then added to the car.

Neil. Theres quite a few R's round Newcastle i see quite a few regular.

I regular see 2 black Golf R's, one 3door and one 5 door, 2 Rising blues both 5 door and a grey one.
I have also seen 3 Scirrocco Rs a Rising Blue, a white one and only the other day a black one.
Thats before i count the dealer demo cars whos number plates i recognise so don't count in the above list.
All in or around Newcatsle city. Probably helped theres a few VW dealerships in Newcastle and some well paid city types.
