Just looked at the terms of the extended warranty and this bad boy leaps out at me and the biggest get out clause I've ever seen!!!

"What is not covered?
Claims for mechanical breakdown of covered parts due to wear and tear, which the gradual deterioration is caused by the effects of age and/or mileage, are not covered. "

What age? What mileage?

VW are bad enough with new cars... imagine trying to get them to fix something after 4.5 yrs

^^

Still get people drooling over my car and he's just had his 2nd birthday.

Quite a few people go out of their way just to comment or talk to me about him. All sorts of people.

The GTI is a very impressive car.

Freshly polished Deep Black is simply stunning.

Golfgti build quality is average at best.

I keep seeing the advert on tele for the i40. That looks a really nice car.

I've often said on here and other forums, if VW didn't market itself on the back of "quality and reliability" then nobody would bother when it all goes wrong. But because they do and because the price them accordingly high, people expect these cars to be spot on. Which they rarely are. Thus the customer's understandable annoyance.

Personally, I think a three year warranty on cars this expensive when Kia/Hyundai etc offer 5 to 7 years as standard is a joke.

And remember, VW policy is not to fix rattles under warranty unless there is a specific broken part. Unbelievable!!!

When I took my car in for its first service, I was asked if there were any rattles or squeaks that needed attention.

Didnt you also have to get your rear bumper sprayed like 5 times ???  :lipsrsealed:

in fact I am pretty sure your car had more visits to the dealership than mine.. and thats saying something!

But if i have family members with Alfas, KIA's, Hyundai's, Fords, Vauxhalls, Skodas (Which i look after for all of them) and a personal history with reliable SEATs that don't/didn't have issues and have had good service from dealers. Don't you think its not normal to expect the same from a brand who markets their cars as quality to at least come somewere near the others for build standards, fit and finish, dealer support and aftersales care?

Snoops:

Admittedly you have had shocking service from your particular VW garages. Yes, you have every right to expect a high standard of service especially when they can see you are a careful and discerning gentleman owner. Their overall behaviour towards you has been shameful.

I have had superb service from my VW Service Department. My issues were with the Bodyshop which is now part of the FixAuto Franchise which both VW and Audi use. Then there was also the crass behaviour of VW Technical, though VWCS were supportive as was my excellent Warranty Manager.

I have had no issues with VW anymore, especially since I wrote a strongly worded letter to Chris Craft, VW MD. In fact, the standard of service I have received has reached dizzy heights. Most impressed.
