coincidence how this happens just after i have been too VW, not pointing any fingers  :lipsrsealed:

How much would it be do you guys think to get all faults fixed, MAF, crank/speed sensor and engine coolant sensor?

Thanks for the help

ignore the coolant sensor for now, that wouldnt stop it starting, i doubt the maf would as well but a simple test for this is unplug it and try it. crank sensor i believe is about 70 quid, but usually this only buggers up cars once there up to temp.

i'll ask again, have you checked the timing belt? is there any teeth stripped?

Timing belt is all ok. And it will sometimes start when cold but once gets warm will cut out or will not start when warm. so this sounds like it is definitely the crank sensor, better get my late on to TPS :)

The Clio didn't as it's naturally aspirated and French

Mines doing this!
Sometimes it starts, and others it won't?
I try to start it... no luck, go back 20 minutes later, starts and runs fine. Park up go shopping, come back starts, drive somewhere else, another shop or something, go back and won't start.
It's such a pain.
Could this be the crank sensor?

Hi,

I've got the exact same issue with my 1.8T Mk4. Once it starts, it works OK. It's only sometimes it does not start, and then suddenly after few minutes it starts. If it is one of the sensors, could it be the cam sensor or do you think it's the crank sensor only? I guess you must have solved this issues by now, can you tell me what the issue was?

Thanks

Did you solve this mate?
And when you said doesnt start does it not crank or it does very slowly then stops?
As thats whats happening to mine

I've got the same issue as well. It cranks but does not fire at times. It seems to work fine since few days, but don't know what it could be. Crank sensor, cam sensor? Have you managed to solve it?

Sometimes a crank position sensor might fail in a way that won't show up in any stored ECU faults that VAG-COM can read.

I'll have to look it up to be sure, but I believe the CPS is a variable-reluctance type sensor with an internal ferrite core and a coil around it. If the coil breaks continuity or shorts out or something, the ECU would see that as a fault. But if for some reason the ferrite cracked or managed to shift position, the CPS could lose its ability to read the teeth on the crankshaft and yet because it wouldn't be an electrical failure, the ECU wouldn't detect it as a fault.

So I've managed to do a diagnostic test. Here are the results:

For the engine speed sensor fault, I assume it refers to the crank sensor? Would that also be the cause of the engine not starting because of being blocked by the immobiliser?
