winter tyres

was thinking about getting some winter tyres. would winter tyres on the front only be ok? or do you need them on all 4 tyres?

dodgy just putting a pair on - front will have lots more grip than rear so will have a tendency to oversteer.

i would definately go for 4

It'd be better than summer tyres all round, but not as good as a full set of winter tyres.  

Might well help you keep moving when everyone else is grinding to a halt, but it may be that your rear wheels are more prone to locking than the fronts.

Drive according to that risk and take the time to understand the handling characteristics of the car so equipped.

It'd be a risk I'd take if I was driving about in a 2WD car in the snow.

Reason i ask is i cant really afford4 but dont wana be driving around with the tt comps due to the fact i dont want to ruen them and they all have only about3mm tred.

if youre changing your alloys, you might as well got for a set of 4 tyres, it might be more costly, but it be even more costly if the car decides it doesnt want to do what you want it to do...

i've sorted a set for both cars this year

alloys with no tyres £80 a set

part worn (from Germany) earlier in year winters with loads tread cost me £130 for one set of 4 and £100
for the others.

No way will I suffer this year

If you'd come earlier it would have been a lot easier, but since some collection of numpties started shouting about snow this winter I suspect supplies of winter tyres will have been disappearing like, well, you know what in April.

just been having a little read about these winter tyres, as ive never felt the need to change the tyres in winter, is it really worth doing? all i can see is more cost in getting 'winter wheels / tyres'
