worst news

Got a call from a very close friends mom last week telling me she was in intensive care with a brain virus and secondary pneumonia, they've been trying to wake her to see if she could breathe without the machines but became worse so she was put back under every time. It's been a week today with her induced into a coma with machines keeping her alive.
She's 20 and struggled with anorexia for a long time up until very recently so i'm guessing her body and immune system are very weak after 5 years of abuse. Anyone else known anybody to be in this way and came through fine? We're all kinda getting worried she won't pull though.

There is always hope mate. A good friend of mine suffered severe brain trauma but after three weeks of a medically induced coma she came out then other side and is still the same friend I had before. Time will tell I'm afraid..
all the best, will keep them crossed for you

Thanks for the kind comments and support guys. They're going to try to wake her again this afternoon to see if she'll breathe with less assistance but it didnt work last time. Her heart rate and blood pressure going through the roof and they put her back under. Fingers crossed

She's out of coma but still sedated. The bad news is the blood tests came back with exactly what the doctors said they were hoping not to find, something called autoimmune encephalitus, no idea what it is but all i know is its serious.
