60k service
« on: 24 September 2011, 20:10 »
Well picked up my 2007 ED30 today and what a sweet car

I bought it from a trader not a garage so he doesn't do servicing, etc
It's done 59500 miles and the sevice now is on the dash so it's due a 60k service and cambelt/ water pump   what sort of prices would the stealers charge for the service or would it make a difference if i use an indy to do the work? would a non VW stamp in the book make any difference when it comes to sell?

Wouldn't make much difference who carries out the cambelt change as long as its documented and you keep receipts for proof for future buyers.

The VW dealers sometimes run offers on the cambelt change special off price is usually about £299, that what I paid for mine anyway.  The usual price is a lot higher I would ring your nearest main dealer and see if they have this offer on & also when you decide where you will get the work done make sure you get the water pump changed as well as it is a cheapm part and if it goes in future it will cost you again in labour.

Nice choice of car by the way & hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Phil

VW website is showing belt and pump price at £399 and major service at £249, do you think the local dealer will budge or stick to those prices?

Last belt change i had done was on an Audi TT (1.8T), local indy charged £249 inc pump, might pop round to see how much he'll charge?

a cam belt should cost £299 at a main dealer, its on their fixed price servicing list but not all vw dealers are taking part, ring your local vw dealer and ask if they are doing the fixed price servicing. i would recommend using them at that price as you get a 2 year parts guarantee with that. alos they are doing a fixed price full service for £249, booked mine yesterday

Looking at the VW website - http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing  the belt change inc pump is £399 and service is £249
Awsome charge £169 for a service + £12 for engine flush, cambelt prices aren't shown? wonder if stealers will compete with their prices?

i highly doubt vw will match the prices from awsome, might be worth asking, they can only say no.

Well spoke to the specialist who did cambelt on my TT and a couple of services on other cars (hope'd to get discount) - £350  - looks like that's going to be the stealers as well, new car and £650 to spend straight away
