mk2 2.0 8v
« on: 22 September 2011, 19:19 »
Bought my '91 mk2 8v gti recently, and the previous owner carried out 2.0 8v bottom conversion from a mk3 gti.

the car also has a stainless steel exhaust system, but apart from that, the car is prettu much standard.

any ideas, roughly how much much bhp the car generates?

and is about the same power as a 16v or is it quicker??

cheers

If it's the standard mk2 PB head on it, around 115-120 bhp. Much more torque though.

yeah its got the standard PB head.

possible to achieve around 150bhp on this engine? or would i have to consider a 2.0 16v engine?

Better off going 16v to be honest bang for buck (in my opinion). You could probably get reasonably close to that with a lairy cam and a heavily modified head but I'm no expert on what to advise there.

Depends what you want out of the car.

You could get it to around 135/140 with big valve head and a good cam

A good 16v will be just as good as a VR. I'm running a pack a tsr head, Kent cam and set up on a vernier. It's putting out 135bhp and 146lb/ft. You would need big valve head, big cam, 4 branch etc to hit 150!
