Newbie from Manchester GTD due next week (Hopefully)
« on: 22 September 2011, 15:45 »
Hi all,

Unfortunately I've not got a GTI but by the looks of things I'm still welcome here! New GTD manual due for collection next week very excited after driving a 140hp auto for the past 2 years. Already spoken with Craig from Carbon Tuning in Altrincham around the corner from where I live really friendly guy who was more than happy to answer all my questions which I'm sure he's been asked a 1000 times before. I will be posting again once it's mapped. James

Good news the car has finally arrived after placing my order back in Feb! Picked her up from Crew VW on Tuesday and it was love at first drive and to my delight it has a full leather interior and bluetooth none of which I ordered at the time or paid for

I've had a couple of days to get used to it and I have to say I cannot fault it and to me at least it feels pretty quick especially 3rd.

Anyway not quite quick enough so she is booked in with Craig at Carbon for him to work his magic tomorrow morning.

It's my birthday on Sat so if I get chance I will bob over for a nosey and the chances are I will be in Manchester on Sat night so might see a few of you about

Apologise this has taken so long I've been busy driving the golf

Anyway as promised I took the car to Carbon a couple of weeks back now. I watched and chatted to  the guys from start to finish which is a nice touch they didn't seem to mind at all and its pretty reassuring (not that I had any doubts) as its immediately obvious they have got mountains of experience and have this re-mapping stuff down to a fine art.

In brief the ECU was out and dismantled with great care half an hour or so later put back together looking like it had never been touched since leaving the factory.

I quick test drive later and I've got a massive smile on my face. What a seriously huge difference the car feels much more powerful and responsive and doc 3rd gear is mint.

For me the best feature of the re-map is how once you have adjusted to the increase in power the car feels 100% factory standard the delivery of the power is perfect there is no sudden wave of boost just a smooth pull all the way through the rev range.

Thanks doc for making a good car even better and to anyone else reading this driving a GTD I would highly recommend a trip to Carbon.
