i really wouldn't want to put my trust in them or any company, I'm too picky and in my opinion, 5k for a standard 1.8T is a lot.. especially when you don't know any history of said engine apart from its probably come from a written off car..  They break VWs so its obvious the engines come from crashed cars.

Cant be arsed to quote older threads as i don't have the time but i recall Thomas spouting on about engines from front ended cars been no good  loads in the past

I have no knowledge about this company, but I think that they're brave enough to offer this service suggests that they have reasonable mechanical knowledge and fair skills to complete the job.  It would also be very harsh to write them off whilst making sweeping assumptions about their work.

They're asking a reasonable price for the engine conversion, especially with a six month warrantee.  The warrantee alone suggests they're confident in their work.

If you're being 'too picky' then take yourself to one side and have a chat with yourself about your own OCD before writing off businesses offering a service you got a mate to do most of.

I think this as well but it depends on not so much the quality of the work but the quality of the engine.. has it had a cambelt/waterpump before conversion ? has it had a full service including plugs and stuff pre/post install.. the conversion yes is very hard i imagine as ive not done it before but to a competent mechanic like many ive met it probably wouldnt take them long but the expensive bit you pay for is their time and knowledge they have built up over the years.. plus they would still have to get parts made up like the downpipe and loom, FMIC etc which do add up even if buying bulk..

imo the price for 'ME' is high but to someone that wants a chequebook car maybe not so.. im lucky i have a lot of friends in the motor trade to help me out if i get stuck and can get me a lot of parts at trade price a lot of people dont have this luxury..

As i said earlier my only worry is not their work but the quality of the engine as this is most expensive part to replace at the end of the day..

I wouldnt pay a company to do a full conversion, I would be happier doing it myself, as its the only way to learn

Looking for your own engine is more sensible, buying the full car is even better depending on the price i would say

Having OCD and wanting to make sure everything is 100% is not a crime DH, been proud in what you have created is not a crime either.

Brad has every right to speak his mind on this subject, he did a great job on finding the best parts for the money, Ben has done a A1 job on fitting and my mate who did conversion for a living has said its one of the best conversions he has seen done.

many of these companys who offer a drive in drive out service arent to bothered on quality,its about profit, keeping cost down, I would want 12 months warrenty

Being a cheapskate and can't trust anyone with my mk2. DIY FTW

You know the install inside out and they do need lots of TLC.

5k...buy a complete undamaged s3 for that.

Personaly 1-1.5k Tops for this conversion through my links.

If I were to go for a 1.8t then my money would be spent at Sub11 were James does a full conversion with low mileage engines, including rebuilt box and hyd clutch conversion, drive in, drive out for £4k.

And if you've saw the 1.8t caddy at action, you too would go there.

Now you see for some reason I never even though about this.  Something I would like for the conversion work, not just the engine if I were to pay someone to do it all.

its not a service aimed at the diy savvy owner, its intended for those who dont know enough to do the job and wont bother learining.

You pay a premium not to be bothered.

To 'drive in, drive out', no hasstle.
