Tyson Fury??
« on: 17 September 2011, 21:40 »
I enjoy watching Boxing, and watch all the big fights, so obviously I've heard of him. I dont really follow boxing in a big way though, but he has always been talked of as being quite good, and as he's reasonably young, and holds the British and Commonwealth titles, didnt have any reason to think otherwise.
Anyway, never seen any of his fights before, but saw it was about to start whilst flicking through channels tonight, so put it on.
Its literally just finished, but I cant see what all the hype is about tbh. Obviously the only other half decent heavyweight in the country is Haye, but he looked very amatuer imo tonight.
Without doubt he's very strong, and has a great reach advantage over most others, which won him the fight. But the footwork was terrible, and every time he threw a big right, he was off balance and open to any punch from any other fighter with even a little intelligence and speed. I was thinking that in the second round, then low and behold, he almost got knocked out in the third. I dont think he will ever really compete on the world stage and draw any real following on this performance.
Anyone disagree???

his main advantage is his size at 6`9 and 18+ stone he is a big bloke, his jab is his best weapon and i have to say at the moment there is no one else in the H/W division  in the uk......just hope he can develop in to the fightter people think he can be

He is the best the UK has to offer which speaks volumes for the state of heavyweight boxing.  If he gets a fight with either Kitschko he will be taught a lesson.

I think some of you are being a bit harsh.
To be honest it was the first time i saw him fight, he was better than i thought he would be.
He's got a very good jab, and quick hands. He is still very young, so he could potentially turn out to be a world champion.

I think he has a lot of potential.

He is very young. He needs to get with a good trainer, work a lot on his defence as with this fight and his previous fight, he could of easily lost as his defence is pretty much non existent.

Apart from his defence though, his attack is very good and he punches very hard and also unlike people like Haye, Harrison and Williams, he goes forward all the fight and not bore you to death like the others do.

Look at Khan when he lost, he looked very far off a future world champion, but since changing his trainer, he is now, imo one of the best in the world, weather you like him or not. So Tyson has nothing to stop him doing the same.

Quick mention about Mayweather...disgrace to boxing, not only for the cheap knockout but for being aggressive to the 80 year old Larry Merchant from HBO after the fight...lets hope Manny will knock this prick out.

Ortiz should have been protecting himself and shouldn't have butted him.
