Rev limiter of DEATH!
« on: 17 September 2011, 10:49 »
Pretty much how you read it guys.

Yesterday driving home from town, I decided to "boot it" on a straight over taking a car. I got to the end of second gear, bounced off the limiter three times then 'muuuh muuuh muuuuuuuh' she completely died on me. I pulled over after much embarrassment and tried to start it again, nothing. The starters turning over nice and strong but no ignition!

Ended up getting a friend to come and tow me home, gutted. Tried her this morning and nothing.

Ecu?

She's a 1991 alpine white 8v run out model in very very good condition. If someone can tell me how to put up a pic?? I'll show you.

Yours hopefully,

Nick

I bloody hope not!!

Nah, everything seems in order Thom. She's just not igniting.

I forgot to add, this has happened once before not long after buying the car. I hit the limiter in third and same thing happened. Pulled over, phoned a friend to pick me up, tried her again and she started, with a bit of turning over.

Feels electrical?

I'll go to photobucket now.

Cheers

It started! It sounds fine. Fired up first turn of the engine.

Cam belt was fine. God knows what then?? Would be handy to know for the future though. Is there a sensor or anything to do with the limiter? Bad earth somewhere maybe.

Hope that pic works.

I've heard this somewhere before but never tried it.

That's looks knackered, give me 50.00 and I'll take it away for your own safety...

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.
