Finding a reason for a write off car online?
« on: 15 September 2011, 22:13 »
Essentially looked at a mk4 round the corner today. It was absoloutely immaculate, gleaming and mint inside.

Decided to buy it and didn;t put a deposit down on it (luckily)

Got home and HPI'ed it and flashed up it was a CAT C, but been through a VIC check and back on the road for over a year.

The guy selling is doing on the behalf of a family friend and didn't know it had been written off and is trying to find out why it was.

In the meantime is there a way I can find out myself?

Really keen on the car as it is immaculate, lowish mileage, has full vw service history and is nearby as a pose to trudging the country to find one, but depending on the reason to the write off depends on whether going for it.

hi when was the last keeper change? Had a few cat c and d as trade in's where the customer had an accident and then bought the car back and carried on useing them hence still has the full history with it. If the last keeper change was before the date of the cat c claim it might have been something silly. However alwas wary of some one selling a car on behalf of a "friend" Always prefer to deal with the owner.

Guys come back to me and said the reason for the write off is due to someone damaging it in a carpark / coming back to find the damage.

Apparently it needed grill, bumper and bonnet replacing, but surely this would be a cat D then not a cat C?

Will ring Vosa and see what they say

He bought it, it's just leaked oil all over my road.

Luckily it's just a small crack on the sump and 5 mins with some silicon sealant seems to have stopped the worst of the flow.
