MK1 Clios - what to look for
« on: 13 September 2011, 22:24 »
So it's either a 306 1.9td but means more savings but pretty much set on a MK1 Clio 1.2 or 1.4.

Only gonna be a cheap run about but got a quote of £1200 with aftermarket alloys and it lowered. So probably will happen.

Probably end up stripping it out and chucking some 40mm shocks springs on and running it 'til I can insure the MK3 again, probably with an engine swap.

Anyone had any experiance with these cars?

Unless you can think of anything else just as good and cheap. Probably will buy one without MOT or an MOT failure but wondering what to look for. Cheers.

Well the plan is to not mod it but it just won't happen.

Also couldn't live with a non lowered car at the moment. Or atleast one with a soft suspension, I genuinely prefer the harsher and stiffer ride. Only 40mm so will probably retain comfort and I want it to be quite fun so don't mind looking out for some bargin bits. :)

Remembering over the course of a year I will save approx £1.5-£2K with running a small car such as a Clio. :)

Get a polo.

Fuel not as good, parts more expensive, more expensive to buy and insure.

I love German cars, I really do but all along I have come to realise, people get French first cars or similar because they are cheap.

I prefer my Golf to my mates Corsas, Clios, 106's, 206's & even 307's which are all newer, some far newer but just don't feel as solid or as nice to drive as my Golf, that being said I have replaced bush after bush and the gearlinkages and track ends etc so the Golf is like new to some extent.

But German cars come with a higher price tag, I thought I could afford that and I can't. Won't be getting rid though. :)

So you'll save that money to spend on modding it.

This doesn't make sense.

Was thinking that acutally. :)

Well I have a 2l engine that I was going to put in my MK3.

Whatever I get from selling that and the ECU etc and scrapping the shell and cats off the MK3 I will spend buying alloys and suspension.

Probably max budget of £200.

Not spending any wages on modding it, any spare cash or little side jobs I get time for will be.

Only plan on spending £500 all in and I definately think that's achivable.

If it's not then I don't get to mod it. :) Watched a few on eBay go for £200 or less. Two with tax & MOT.

Or a £20 set of second hand 40mm or less springs.

I may not mod it but I know I'll want to. I won't go mad on it though, will literally be suspension and maybe alloys at the very most. Would say exhaust but fed up with drone.
