Right, built up a G60 engine with an 020 'box (ATH code) and have fitted a brand new Sachs 8v gti clutch kit. Engine has a lightened flywheel fitted too. Engine is in the car now, but not up and running yet.
Connected up the auto adjust cable that was fitted to the gti engine I pulled out and it was too slack, so swapped for a new manual one I had.
Problem is the clutch pedal doesn't feel right

and I don't think the clutch is disengaging. The push rod is definately 340mm as I've had it back out to check. New release bearing fitted (housing is 19mm). According to brokevw.com the arm should be at 9 O'clock position when lifted by hand as per pic below;

But mine is actually here when lifted by hand

Anyone elses come up this far?
Is there a check you can do to see if the clutch is disengaging? I thought that if you put the car in gear and someone pressed the clutch down then the driveshafts shouldn't turn when you turn the engine on the crankshaft, but they still do...
Any help appreciated, although I think I'm going to pull it all apart again and have a look anyway
