Buying a 1.8t 20v

Hi there, im new to the forum and im looking for some advice so i figured this is the best place for it!
I want to buy a mk4 GTi 1.8t 20v 2002 onwards so its 180bhp but i just want any advice in what to look for when buying one such as any common problems, how it should drive etc

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Iam hoping to get a 180bhp 1.8T next year, so i'd be interested in some info as well

It'll only be 180bhp if its an anniversary, I think.  Topher will know for sure.

ahhhh right 'cos from what i understand pre-2002 they only made 150bhp standard 1.8t but post-2002 they got facelifted to 180bhp and there was also the 25th anniversary edition.
Im not too fussed about 30bhp 'cos im getting a brand new ecu anyways to take it to around 240bhp! hehe

yep.. late 2002 they made them 180bhp ... as for what to look for.... it could take me all night to type it out.. try the search function and see what you get

I think the 180 came out with the anni but was then standard for all Ts after 2002, from what ive heard theres not a great difference between a 150 and 180 anyway, but id be happy to have the extra 30bhp!!!
