When you look at any official VW UK literature (including websites) the GTI logo is used as a sub brand to market the GTI, GTD and the R. For instance when checking VW UK used cars all the sporty ones are listed under the GTI heading then they get their sub headings (apart from the R which is demoted to being a mere 'other').
Mind you VW UK don't instill any confidence in them knowing what their dealers sell because when you look in the used Scirocco section they list nearly all the model derivations that have been out of production for over 20 years and yet don't list the R as an option. Do I assume they'd happily sell you a 23 year old Scirocco Scala for £800 but not a £30k R?
