Damaged engine
« on: 12 September 2011, 18:59 »
Sorry this is a bit of what's it worth thread,

Ive bought a new engine as I believe mine is knackered, even it isnt the deal ive got is good and will enable me to just put it in and start my engine and it be ready!

How much would a 9A kr head with k-jet  be worth with a bent valve? Should I just take it out and see if it is damaged  first. Basically is it cheap to fix a bent valve? The engine doesn't have service history but has done around 130k.

 :undecided:

Get a proper compression and leakdown test done on it to get a better idea if its a valve or not. Its not exactly hard to replace and lap in a new valve, its more the cost of the new head gasket, valve and head bolts and the precautionary cam belt and tensioner thats the issue. Add in potential damage to the valve guide and you might as well bin it for your purposes.

I think I would be proving it is fine before I took the engine out myself but hey

Bought a new engine lol so it's coming out regardless, Ive done a compression test for weeks ago and was fine, havn't done the other thing you mention though.

Actually, im just going to put k-jet back on and see if it runs like that.

Right, never sold an engine so bare with me.... If I can't prove hat my engine works and just if I say last time I had it running on megasquirt is was running 2 cylinders, would no-one buy it ? But If I was to say spend £50 on getting some bits of kjet I'm missing and proves it works then would I get an okish price for it. Just seen a bike carbed 6a going for £550 on edition. So at  guess if mine was up and running and fine then maybe £200ish ?

Cant find any 9a's to compare against.

Just admit your engine isnt worth anything and the problem your having is in the megasquirt and fix that instead. Its not a single leaking valve if the engine isnt running on two of the cylinders is it??

Well two bent valves then! So if it is working fine when I put it on k-jet its still worth nothing?

Nothing wrong with the meagsquirt, probably was the fuel rail.
