I can remember looking at two and three year old mk2s back in the day and many were already piles of crap back then. The sort of people that bought/leased them very often got them purely for their image and didn't look after them. Not much has changed.

I wonder if you can buy the tarten material. You use to be able to from a place in Germany for the mk5.  :smug:

I feel a plan coming together.

You often see GTD interior for sale, a retrim with half leather and GTI style centre sections and keep my original interior packed away.  :smug:

I blaim this guy for giving me the idea

Those seats are amazing. The whole car is amazing (especially the colour!!).
I don't like the wheels though, should've kept the Tallawhatisits.

I have been looking for a good mk2 and I did not even realise there was so many piles of over priced crap as there are, some owners are way deluded.

I looked at loads before finding my one owner full history car. The problem with most 20 odd year old cars is that if they have had several owners, at some point they will have changed hands for very little money and been treated almost as disposable.

End of hijack.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Well I thought it was perfect but after some use the seat cover started puckering in places.
Gave the car in yesterday and it's now fixed. Yet to check and collect it. I wonder what they have damaged.

Oh, on my way to VW I kerbed my nearside alloy. How, I have no clue. Tiny mark but a tad annoying none the less. Soon be fixed by Auto Audio.

Fix one thing and damage another. Ying and yang.

Not relevant to the seat post admittedly but my Mark 2 (Snoop's earlier comment) is spotless. Totally unmodified, not a spot of rust on it, just totally original. Everyone comments how mint it is. So there are some good 'uns out there.
Sometimes I think I'm going to sell it to move onto my next project (e.g. a good Mk2 16v) but they're nigh on impossible to find so I think the next project might have to be a different marque.

I did similar with my Mk3 Anniversary.
Sourced a set of Mk4, heated, side airbag Recaros and had them half leather covered using new Mk3 Anniversary seat covers to give the correct cloth...works a treat.
