Rattle Can Paint match??
« on: 10 September 2011, 15:39 »
So it turns out that the halfords stuff is a terrible match..  I used the premixed stuff. Is the stuff they mix in store better?

So can anyone else recommend somewhere better?

Cheers

Would they normally be able to mix up rattle cans as well? I thought they only did tins.

A dealers should be able to mix some up for you. I also found the halfords off the shelf cans a pretty poor match, the stuff they mix up in store is much better, although almost twice the price

Halfords paint is a poor match, whether that's the pre-mixed or mixed on site.

Go to your local dealer for rattle cans and touch-up pens, they are much better than the Halfords stuff.

If it's a big panel, get your local body shop to spray it as they may be able to match paint which has faded etc.

Thats the main problem, where the paint has faded as the mk4 is 10-12 years old its not going to be exact. As said best thing is to go to a body shop where they can get the grade from the car paint and match it the best they can.

just to add my two penneth, due to having a red mk3 my paint is nigh on impossible to match, but what i noticed when using any rattle can is that if you use white, grey or red primer each will give you a slightly different shade of the colour your spraying, so my advise is to get a bit of test metal and try the 3 different primers to see what gives you the closest match. hope this might help someone?
