Old sealant removal!!!

I've opened up my mk3 lights to joey them. It looks like they've Beemer opened before & resealed with black sealant. It's like tar and I'm struggling to get it off!!!! Any tips on what to use? Feels like I'm getting nowhere! I'm scraping it wiv a screw driver but it's just too sticky

try something like this? might get something like it from your local hardware shop
