After buying my 06 GTI (42k) I noticed that it sounded like a tractor when warm :rolleyes:so I done a few searches on here and found the thread on the cam-chain and knew straight away I had the same problem
Anyway had it all done today at a VW specialist £703 all in and it's perfect
spoke to the mechanic and looked over the old parts with him and it all looked very good I.e chain, variater and even the cam adjuster,
The only thing that was different is that they had changed the part number on the cam adjuster and the one that come out had an Audi logo on it.
I'm almost 100% that it's a problem with the adjuster on the earlier models and I could have even got away with just changing that and not the chain and variater kit as well which would have saved about £110.
Anyway apart from being out of pocket I'm over the moon the ticking inside has gone the it sounds like a petrol again
