clicking when i let off the gas

morning all just got back from my hols and gone to use my car ,problem being when i drive it its seems ok but when i let off the accelerator it makes what seems like a clicking noise,i'm thinking the gearbox could posssiblly be on its way out as it seems to be coming from around that area but havent had a proper look yet,just to add it did start clicking in reverse a while back ,presuming there both related,any help really appreciated  thx,brett

Could be a drive shaft.

ye did think that but spoke to her dad just before he went away and he said he thought it would have done it under load as opposed to when u let off the accelerator,next how would i go about checking it lol,will use the search bar right now lol,cheers mate

right been offered another box for spares for free,but not sure if its from an older golf (ady eng i think),can i use any of the parts off of it ,for mine ,soz as per usual if a lame question but as you can all guess by now still a bit of a novice at all this lol,thx for all the help chaps much appreciated,brett
