pug 307 (SORRY)

my cousine has a pug 307 and we couldnt start it yesterday but then we push started it and it started, we wasnt sure if its the battery or the alternator, but 1 thing i did do was, when the car was started i disconnected the battery and the car didnt shut off, does that me its the battery?

do any electronics work when turned off? (battery connected obviously)

The battery is a part of the circuit, so it should stop if it's disconnected, unless these cars have a bypass to keep you going, which they might well do.

yes diesel. funny how it kept running. and all elecs work when batterys connected and cars started.

Then it's dieseling (self fuelling)

Check all your oil levels, seals on turbos and compression on cylinders. Try not to drive it anywhere as it runs a chance of running off and the only way to stop it will be to dump the clutch in 5th when the car is standing still and hope the gearbox can take it. Needless to say doing all of this whilst it's ragging it's head off is quite stressful.

sounds like to me that the alternator is providing power to the engine when the battery is disconnected. So alternator is fine then aint it? if the alternator was farked then the engine would have cut out as soon as i disconnected the battery
