But aside from xenons, 18''ers and other performance hardware, the R doesn't come any better specced than a GTI anyway so you'd still need to spec it up with options if you wanted a bit of luxury for your £30 odd thousand.
Just have a look at the amount of second hand Rs up for sale at £35,000 plus.
Mad money for a Golf. But if the monied masses are downsizing from their big Mercs etc. there must be buyers out there for them.
