Lightbulb moment

I think i realised today what 16v owners are on about in the 8v-v-16v argument, i was doing some precision overtaking on the way home tonight and i noticed that if you come up behind someone carrying some good speed and drop down to 4th in the 8v it pulls well and gets down the road fairly rapid but if you have to slow down then drop it in to 3rd it just doesn't rev quickly enough and leaves you looking a bit of a t*at, just thought i'd share that.

Really? mine pulls in 3rd right up to around 90 :undecided:
I think the valvers are best through 2nd into 3rd, higher top speed in each gear with more pull nearer the redline, this equates to about 3/4 car lengths over an 800m dash
My valvers have only had the legs over the 8v in this area and in overall top speed.
Mk3 8v wont go over 120mph where as 16v will go to 130mph, i found this to be the case my Mk2's as well.
16v is better but there is little in it, you still get shamed by French cars which is all part of owning a Mk3 GTI

there was a diferance but not a great deal

I find mine pretty tasty in second. Got a set of traffic lights then a tight 90 deg bend then a long drag up a hill with a 40mph limit near my house. 2 lanes as well, and obviously as long as its nothing half decent, I get to the top pretty damn quickly and almost always in front of anything that tries to have a go.
