Windows 8 - ribbons galore
« on: 31 August 2011, 12:29 »
Now if anyone out there has struggled like I have with Office 2007 and it's stupid interface you can now expect the same joy from Windows 8. Rumour has it that Windows Explorer 8 will have a similar "Ribbon" interface.

Sorry MS but it's just too haphazard and ugly.

Some software developers just have too much time on their hands.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

Why are they trying to make everything look like spastics/idiots/pensioners can use it with ease?

I think it's good and will suit the touch interface MS are aiming it at :undecided: It's also reported that it will be hidden by default like the current menu bars in Vista/7 (never read that article as I read a few yesterday about it). I also see no reason to compare an aging interface like OSX AND iOS either (they appear to compare the 'normal' Windows UI to iOS - why? What's the point? It's a different OS, compare the new Windows UI to iOS if you want, but not the 'old' UI)

I never had a problem with Office 2007 (or 2010) and found it easier to use after half an hour exploring it.

I hate the ribbon interface, it gives me a headache trying to find things. soon they will replace everything with giant GIF icons and the new logo will be a middle finger?

What on earth is Microsoft thinking?

That people actually want to do things with their computer, instead of just 'consume content' which seems to be all Apple is about these days.

And before any Apple fanboi steps out and starts going on about how great the Mac is for creating content, let's talk about how f*cking intuitive Photoshop is to use, shall we?

OSX is a duh operating system for people who like being treated like duh users.  It drives me up the wall if I try and do something remotely more than just basic stuff.  The ribbons work fine and Office for Mac looks and feels archaic.

Just how disingenuous this comparison is, is highlighted by the fact that the stupid comparison graphics have left off the top toolbar used in the 'minimised and streamlined' OSX model.

Oh that'll be because it might be floating miles away, half a screen above that window.

Hang on, I'll just <stupid symbol> + CMD or CTRL (but I can't remember which) + J to access that feature.  Oh that's so streamlined.

FAIL.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Once you get used to the Office '07 Ribbons they're actually pretty good. Though I wish they kept the functionality of some of the buttons. Like inserting a graph in Excel and then editing it, instead of setting it up properly THEN inserting it. But that just bugs me because I do a lot of graphs. And the equation editor isn't a nice as before, but that's not a big deal.
On a whole I still find Office '03 the easiest/best to use, but there's nothing wrong with '07.

Try 2010 - it's another step on.

It's like moving windows in Win7 vs XP.  My boss is still running XP and it was like someone had cut an arm off - I'll just grab that window and throw it into that screen, oh no you won't, you'll double click it, drag it, then double click it to re-maximise.

Progress is actually pretty good, however much you like the Golf2 GTD I'll take the Golf6 GTD over it most days of the week.
