I gather that TDI and veg oil doesn't mix well from reading other forums in the past, something to do with the way fuel doesn't enter the engine directly but goes through a seperate tank thing which I forget the name of (some mechanic I'll make ).

The 1Y and AAZ engines are the mk3 engines which are meant to be superb for vegetable oil, they're direct injection.

I have a 1Y but since it's off the road and still has diesel in it from the previous owner I haven't yet tried SVO (straight vegetable oil) though I was tempted.

Downside now I gather is that veg oil is now the same price / litre as diesel, so while you'll be saving the environment you wont be saving your wallet.

Shame the government don't class veg oil users into lower tax bands mind.

Chief. :)

plenty of other suppliers  chip shops, small restaurants etc.

easy steps....
sieve through (t shirt wrapped over drum)
leave to stand....2 days for water from food to fall to bottom
pull from top
add 1tspn thinners per litre of oil!
HEH PRESTO!!!!!!

I didn't think you can legally add thinners because I read that they're considered as additives to the fuel, but aren't on the accepted additives list.

I only know that from this Top Gear video I found which told you to add non-mineral based additive to get round the tax man, but according to other veg oil forums said that wasn't going to work.

Of course mind you, maybe its okay if you're registered as a fuel supplier, which I also gather you have to be to use non-svo oil, but it's been a while since I looked into all this.
