mk4 1.8t holding back and mis-firing
« on: 26 August 2011, 19:24 »
i bought this on monday and drove from wokingham to northampton without any issues, but i did drive it like an old lady as my wife was following and thats how she drives.
anyway we have driven it a few miles since getting it home again she was driving it so driven and gears changed very low in rev range. i took it out today and on a dual carriage way slip road gave it a little dab to enter carriageway and it started to fart and hesitate, then if briefly cleared then accelerating up the hill on the dcw it did it again for a much longer period.
seems to do it most on full throttle.

any ideas welcome.

mike.

a manual boost controller turned too high and some vacuum pipes in incorrect places did that to mine when i first got mine. maf may also be at fault. best thing is get fault codes and work from there

Unplug the maf and see if it runs better, if so you need a new one, get genuine or bosch, avoid cheap versions.

Wayne, i have just unplugged the maf and basically it made the symptoms 100x worse straight away.

it doesn't seem to be doing it all the time although it does feel like it's got giving it's all most of the time and my wife today informed me that the revs were sitting high (2k) on idle then after a few seconds drops to correct idle speed.  also when changing gears and dropping the clutch it's revs can be as high as 3k without dropping away when lifting to change gear.

finally had the codes read and the car threw up 19 codes, some were radio and comfort settings etc.
cleared them all off and after a small run it has come back with the hall sensor code.

does this sound like it could cause the above mentioned issues?
