No it doesn't look like out of toe from that pic as that will feather the tread but there is no harm in having it checked?

You can't remember hitting anything as the steering wheal should always be straight in a straight line, it shouldn't come from the factory with a misaligned steering wheel?

Its illegal so put the spare on.

You say the other side isn't as bad but thats showing the same wear pattern?

This thread prompted me to get out my July 2011 What Car, which had a 30,000 ml/1 years GTD ownership by Euan Doig (group production editor) detailed report (probably available on line as well) Where he states that after 21k the rear tyres were worn unevenly on the inner edges - so after a full alignment check the engineers report stated that **all** 4 wheels were *badly* out of true and had likely been so since day one!!!
Since he wrote about the issue, no fewer than 23 readers with Golfs and other VW models that have the same "underpinnings" as his car got back to him with the self same problem

The inside edge used to wear down more on my last car Rover 216 GTi. I checked all the geometry and it was with in spec I used to reverse the rotation to even up the wear.

When I went for an MOT once I know the service manager at the Rover dealers and he said I see you've had new tyres on the front was that because the inside edge was wearing out? Yes thats why, is there any service bulletin of Rover about this? Yes they know about it but there is nothing to change/adjust they say.

Yeah Jimble I did. Within the first week of the car being out the wrapper. 
I did initially think that may have been the cause but I thought I might have had some steering difficulties but the car has been absolutely fine. It was only that wheel that mounted the traffic island.

I wouldn't have expected both front wheels to be wearing more or less equally in the inside edge but could be wrong?

I wonder if that explains my steering wheel being ever so slightly off centre?!

@Keith thanks for the links very informative reading but I thought that was for the rear tyres. Mine don't look to have worn at all on the rear.

Front Tyre Wear on Inner Edge

Just take it in and see what the dealer says?

I tend to think that VW need to take more care with wheel alignment before they leave the factory.

Our 2008 TDI Pacific scrubbed the front tyres on the inside, costing me new tyres much sooner than it should have. The dealer would not take any responsibility.

With the 2011 GTD that we have now, I insisted they check alignment on 1st service as a precaution.  Bugger me if the alignment had almost the identical error that was on the other car, so they adjusted it under warranty.

If I buy another one I'll be doing the same becaus tyres are too expensive to destroy for no reason!

so for those picking their car up tomorrow.....would people advise getting a 4 wheel alignment check from an independent?
