Best thing to do overseer is too jack the car up at the back and with the handbrake off place your hands on the tyre at half past twelve / quarter past six positions and try and rock the wheel, if the bearing has play in it you'll feel it through your hands.

When the play is really bad you can hear the wheel knocking.

The VW bearing kits are good as they have everything you need in them except the grease lol

yeah it does sound like its coming from the wheel.. i explained it to a few people here at work and they think its more likely to be suspension.. i'll definitely give it a good wiggle when we sort it all out on sunday morning!

i have the bearings now (36 quid all inc for both sides).. n have the pad's n discs at home somewhere..

tonight will be spent putting my new skatebaord together  :cool:

after driving around last night.. have decided the noise i've been blaming on the skateboard vibrating in the boot is actually the wheel bearings...  roll on sunday!

just got back from doing this..

bearings + pads replaced..

handbrake seems great..  brakes dont squeek anymore.. result :)




labour cost me a tenner.. took from 4.30 -> 8pm.. with big of gassing here and there!  :cool:

i did say there was some gassing... haha..
plus people turning up to pick up vehicles he'd fixed for them.

one thing was... they had to be wound back manually.. he thinks someone borrowed his winder tool :(

wouldnt be suprised if he's lost it.. his yard is like an aladdins cave... several (dead) furntiure removal
lorries filled with parts and tools.. along with smaller allso dead things filled with more goodies..

it wasnt like he said it took that long.. me and my old man were both there the whole time helping.
the guy's a pro.. works with commercial vehicles all day every day..
