Liking the idea of having a useful car though, we move quite alot and tend to end up doing errands so the boot is always used and seats folded down haha
An abf'd mk1 would be cool :D
However rados are gorgeous!

Sorry mate, I've not been on here much recently, Missus has been keeping me far too busy.

Do you want this as a second car?.....

What do you want to know exactly?

Cheers guys!
Have been reading through the caddy forum, got bits of knowledge!
As the mk3 is being scrapped, i wanted to know what buts can be used on a caddy, and just general things to look for on them, bed rust etc...
It will be a second car for me to use as a daily to cruise to work and back. Pref deisal to save some money. Then some tinkering at weekend.
Looking to buy around feb next year I think, and needs to be reliable. Also want one for ease of moving house next time too :D

You can tell i've not been around much, I missed this!!!! scrapped!?

I think diesels can be hard to come by at times but you can get good MPG from most of the petrol motors.

Just go and buy THIS, it's a diesel too!

Whats your budget?

My rule for beds is that if not's been repaired then you usually have nothing to worry about, if it has, the odd plate here and there due to rotting out, check the underneath as best you can to make sure the bed wasn't letting water rot the chassis.

Apart from the bed, rust to look out for on these are similar to Tin tops. I would say have a look through THIS and just ignore anything that's irrelevant.

Believe it or not MK1's be it a tin top, cabby or caddy are very reliable.  In fact I would almost go as far as saying caddys more so due to not having anywhere near as much to go wrong compared to a GTI. Just bare in mind that these were built to be workhorses so will not necessarily have had as much TLC as the cars.

Cheers mate!
Will look at those links when i get home!
I do love caddys, they look smart as!
Like the idea of the practicality too!
Hopefully if I get this job it'll only be tootling back and fro
Budget is gonna be tight, but thinking a thou ish?
Only thing would be getting the rear leaf spring flipped? Are they practical when flipped?
