Worried for a friend
« on: 23 August 2011, 17:48 »
Was supposed to be seeing a female friend tonight but she's cancelled. She was over at her Mum's in a bit of a state because she's been called back to the hospital after an abnormal smear test.

I don't know the full details but you can't help but worry. Even after doing a small amount of research I am still none the wiser - there seem to be so many different permutations of what it "could" mean that I'll wait to find out what the medics say.

She's in a bad place at the moment right now as her bloke has just dumped her for his ex. Thingy.

Don't really know the best way to support other than to be there if needed. What do I say?

Anyone know of anybody who's gone through the same situation?

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

There's not much you can say apart from just having her know that you're there to take her mind off things for a while if she needs a friend.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

Abnormal could be anything to mildly abnormal (and temporary) to very abnormal (and cancerous). Just be there for her. She needs further review + colposcopy.

as said dont go to ott as she proberbly wownt want all the fuss.

but let her know your thinking of her and if she ever needs out that you will be there.

It is really great that you want to be there for your mate now but remember if she needs treatment it may be a long process. In my experience of these things (a friend of mine had to have quite extensive treatment) lots of people are supportive at first but then they fall by the wayside as things go on. She will appreciate it if you can be there for her to do the small things later on, pick her up from appointments or just drop off a goody bag of treats when she is feeling down etc.

On the positive side most abnormal results are because the test was contaminated or just not clear enough to give her the ok and they just need to do a repeat to check there are no problems.

I hope it all turns out ok for her.

Well got a friend who has had a number of abnormal smears and several cancer scares and is currently awaiting a response as has been called back for a 3rd time and may need more treatment. Smears are not always cancer even if not just a mistake...Plenty of other reasons that still need treatment.

Keep your head and good on you for wanting to support keeping hers up.
