Yes your silly, I would avoid the V5.

Very thirsty and can be troublesome, 1.8t is a much better bet.

Welcome to the site btw

 not that f**king bandwagon again.

V5 has good power and good power delivery and torque.

1.8t is a car that will give you problems, Crap power delivery and lowsy peak, lag and boost leaks.

The V5 is an underrated engine. Nice and smooth and doesn't run out of puff in the higher rev ranges. It's surprisingly economical on long motorway runs, but forget it around town in rush-hour traffic if you're in any way troubled by visits to the petrol station.

Slightly off-topic, but the V5 is quicker than the 1.8t. At least in Beetle form it is, anyway.

Sweet, im not overly bothered by it being a bit juicy as it doesnt make any difference to me with the fuel prices! Also would be used very rarely and if at all it would be motorway journeys. To be honest i am very excited for it. its got low miles and i am getting it for a very good price. Tax is a fair bit but so what. aslong as i enjoy it.

With regards to mods etc.. i wouldnt really want to tamper with the engine to much... for one i dont know alot about them. and secondly im more about enjoy the feel of a dub.
only thing i would do for the first year is possibly lower it and change the alloys... any ideas?

My V5 Beetle has been fine and only needed a temp sensor changing in three years of ownership, though that is a fiddly bastard of a job to do.

Sounds like a nice car :)

Horrid things.

Yes but complex engine so needs looking after.

Out of interest, how many miles has it done, how much and what year.
