Check your connections where you have been fixing stuff may have knocked a wire off check fuses etc might be more but try the simple things 3 times first!!

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Might be the voltage regulator on the back of the speedo cluster gone funny.

Check the earth lead from the rocker cover to the coil bracket is in place, check all the bolts on the rear of the cluster are done up tight as these supply the electrical connection to the gauges. As diagnosis-dub says check the voltage stabiliser:

To test the voltage stabiliser, connect a voltmeter between the terminals shown (see illustration) with a 12 volt supply to the remaining terminal. A constant voltage of 10 volts must be registered. If the voltage is above 10.5 volts or below 9.5 volts renew the voltage stabiliser.

you reckon this might be the cause of my intermittent temp gauge?? works sometimes but not other times? sender & wiring is fine from engine to bulkhead

Could well be, or it could just be knackered clocks. Especially if they are motormeter, not as good as VDO manufactured ones!

Yep mine are motometer too, just ordered secondhand instrument cluster. Its a pain in the butt to having to guess if I've got enough fuel to get to work and back home again each day. Cheers for you help again guys
