Remap and insurance dilema?
« on: 22 August 2011, 16:26 »
Hi i think the time is right to think about getting a remap

The only thing i am worried about is whether or not to tell the insurance   :undecided:

On one hand i want to tell them just in case anthing happens but on the other hand people say there is no real way of telling that you have had a remap

Help please? (with elephant, 21, 1ync, so would prob bum rape me for any mods )

You modify your car, you tell your insurance.  If you can't afford it, you don't do it.  Simple.

If you invalidate your insurance by not notifying them of a mod, that means you're no better than pikey sc*m who drive dodgy cars around without MOT or insurance. And it means if you have an accident, the other person won't get a payout from your insurance company.
How would you like it if another driver hit you, you expected a payout to fix/replace your car, but their insurance wouldn't payout cos they'd modded the car but not told them?
You'd be fuming.
If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the mod.
Man up, pay up and pay the full cost of the mod.

i wasnt going to do it the only reason i mentioned it is that when i mentioned a remap a while ago people said 'oh just dont tell them about the remap as the insurance company cant tell whether or not your car has one' thats why it got me thinking.
I wouldnt do it with any other mod like wheels etc etc as like you said if it was the other way round then iwould be pi$$ed

Ive emailed the insurance company to ask how much it is to add it on, not sure what there response will be

the insurance company can't tell if your ecu is mapped... but the people they send the ECU to if you cause an accident most certainly will be able to.

You must know that it would invalidate your insurance lol If ya do crash just make sure your try and destroy the ecu.lol

You'd be a gutted if you didnt know your car had a little economy map on it lol, I doubt youd ever get caught but thats my view.
