Thats my point, its not on the shelf as such, but they can mix it from base colours just like any other colour, so long as they have the recipe for it...
Same goes for bodyshops, they have a mixing scheme that enables them to mix almost any recognised auto colour from scratch... the paint I used was a previous mix, left over from a job I did some weeks earlier...

I'm not going to dissagree with you as I respect you to much - but how many Halfauds are going to have the mix codes for Ferrari red??

Body shops these days get a guy in to match the colour - I know this as I got mine matched with 99.8% results when I got my roof and bumpers sorted last month...

True??

I would imagine - but happy to be corrected - that Halfords have a database from the paint manufacturers on all paint colours. Would seem foolish not to.  They don't stock Ferrari rattle cans for the simple reason of limited shelf space.  Although you may find that colour in Halfords in Belgravia.

Why stock any rattle cans, when any colour can be mixed from scratch.
Most bodyshops will have a paint mixing scheme like this,

Any colour can be mixed, by adding different colours to an empty tin that is placed on scales, which are then set to zero, typically, something like Ferrari Rosso Corsa will have 5 different colours, that are added to the empty tin, in varying amounts according to there weight, the mix will then be topped up with a binding agent that completes the mix... child's play!
The formulation itself, may be held on a Microfiche, or a monitor connected to a updatable computer program via the net.
The whole thing works, just like going into B&Q and having some household paint mixed...
Many bodyshops don't have a dedicated mixing scheme, but a phone call to their local Motor factor, with the colour code, or a pattern sent to them for reference, usually a filler flap, or part of the damaged bumper for example, the paint can be mixed to formulation, and tweaked if required, for an exact match.
Formulations are no big secret, paint manufacturer want the customer to be able to mix any colour, for any brand of car, otherwise there is no point!
Most car manufactures use  the same few companies to supply paint for the production line, lately the PPG brand is used, it seems on most things...
