It is not a baseless claim. He had a mk4 which also blew up on him and now has a A3, since he has used both I would think his opinion is just as valid as yours. Get over it.

For the record, i agree with Rhyso, i also prefer Audi's.
But golfs are fine too

I've driven a number of Golfs over the years so as already pointed out to you, my opinion is based on my experience.  Sorry if that doesn't agree with your opinion but I won't lose any sleep over it
