Painting side trim and smooth bumper

Was looking at some VR6 mk'3 and love how the side trim is colour coded! Did they come like this or is this modded?



Any tips for achieving this look? Could I just paint my trim or will it not look anywhere near like that? :embarassed:

Also wanting to smooth my front bumper just the number plate section, what filling should I use? Ordinary body panel filler do the trick or will that make a mess?

Where can I replace my numberplate on the front of the car so it's still legal and can I have a square number plate on the front?

Ok thanks wayne, found a couple of people selling their smoothed trim so I'll see if I can pick it up gonna buy another front bumper and try and smooth off the number plate area and reposition it with a square one somewhere else all being legal

it depends on how you want the bumper to look really, did you want it completely smooth like the one pictured above or were you planning on keeping the original swage line around it minus the plate recess? Either you're best bet is to get a donor rear bumper to chop a section out of to be plastic welded into place on the front.

Yeah I wanted to keep the swage line around the bumper and just to remove the number plate area. I'd probably have to remove the entire line otherwise with the number plate gone it might look weird. Not sure

Like i said, you can still keep the swage line if you chop a section out from a rear bumper and plastic weld it in.

im currently tryin the same, i bort an old front bumper from a breakers for 20 notes and have an old back bumper, and the plan is to to cut the number plate section out then plastic weld a section from the back bumper in, then gunna atempt to fit US style side indicators too.

Ive already brought a pair of bumpers ready to be hacked, unfortunately I simply haven't had the time to even start doing them yet....hopefully next month fingers crossed. Im still in two minds as to whether i want to keep the bumper mounted indicators and fogs though?

yh i thort bout smoothing them too but then you gotta try and mount the indicators in the head lights of something so cant be botherd lol

Any one thought of tiny little orange l.e.d's inbeded somewhere atthe front of the car :/ just a thought then you can completly smooth it :/
