Had a search and read up on replacing gear linkage bushes as not done a full set before, but can't see a mention of this one \/ and it's not included in the kit I bought. Worth changing? Mine looks pretty cracked and knackered  :undecided:

might as well if you have it all in bits , saves taking it off again in the future

If thats your shift box out of the car, then do it! I got one of those bushes from e-bay, I think it was from 'chub-nut' or something like that, the guy sells loads of wee bits like that.

I asked my mechanic to fit that bush when he was fitting a new manifold (too big a job for me) but he reckoned it was ok. I'd felt a bit of movement in it when replacing the ball and cup though...

yes replace. sounds like you got the cheaper kit, the full bush kit iirc is about 25-30 quid and includes every bush in the gear mech including the gearstick ball bush and spring.
i had all mine done with the full kit and it feels like its just come out of the factory

Thanks for the replys :) I stripped it tonight and found that it is the same as the other red bush near the end (didn't realise this before), but I only got one in the kit I bought, which is odd as I bought a full kit for 20quid ish so not particularly impressed. I will get another bush and stick it in.

The 'cup and ball' for the gear lever often comes in kits, but I dont think this one does, im sure it differs a bit from the other orange bush. But you should be able to check that now its all it bits. May need to be from a dealer or that ebay seller I mentioned (didnt see one listed just now though)

It is available from the dealers as a complete bush part number 191 711 190B and is about a tenner. However, the inner bush is the same as the red one fitted at the other end, so I just bought another of the basic kits with that bush in it and swapped the inner bush over.

Yeah, you have to pry the big black bush out of the gear housing then I used a screwdriver to force the old inner bush out. Warmed the new one in some boiling water then forced it back in using said screwdriver, it's a bit of a pain as it's a very tight fit, but it does go in the end :)
