« on: 17 April 2005, 02:31 »
Ok, searched thru the archives and have found a load of info, but just wanna check-

kr 16v head will fit on 9a block with no mods?

9a from rado or passat, 6a in audi the same but sump is different?

any thing else on this topic - may do a photo how to later this year.

Yes the KR head fits the 9A.
The oil filter housing is also different on the 6A.

use your kr cams aswell

also do you have to get a 2.0 metering head or will the 1.8 one do? :undecided:

I haven't tryed it but I think the 1.8 metering unit will be OK, the 2.0 uses a cise motronic system. If you want to fit the motronic setup it will require some work, fitting a lambda sensor, temp sensor for ecu, wiring in the ecu, etc, etc, but can be done.

Mine has a 9a bottom end and im pretty sure it uses the origional metering head. Im not 100% sure as i didnt do the conversion but i cant see any difference with other metering heads and i dont have a lamda sensor etc.

the 9a block is a straight swap, use your existing head and all the ancilliaries associated with your KR

Cheers fellas, it was as i thought...

9a Block with KR cams and everything else is a case of swapping from one block to another.

I will defo do a Photo how to style when it happens, Just pick up my coilovers today so will start the search for the block.

How much do you reackon these should cost?

Only the inlet cam is different, the exhaust cams are both the same.

The KR is a better profile compared to the lame catalyst spec 9A one.

Also for more torque use the 9A 44mm inlet manifold, for more BHP use the 50mm KR inlet manifold.

If you use a 6A audi lump you have to also change the oil pump and sump for the ones from a 9A as they have a different orientation as they are intended to be fitted longitudually rather than the golf transverse set up.

You need to use the KR fuel metering unit as the one from the 9A has a potentiometer to determine throttle position. which isnt needed on your car as your running K jetronic and not KE jetronic which the passat and corrado 2 Litres had
