Done that too - luckily still had the packaging for the set and ordered a new key online for about a tenner!

Stupidest thing I've ever done... accidentally wired my horn up to my lights on my mk2 jetta.. didn't find out until I finished work at 3AM!

I have also done that, luckily I found it the following day on the other side of the road about 5 meters from my drive

On my old Astra mk4 sleeper (2.5 v6 in it) i had a squealing pulley for the steering and alternator. so i bough some silicone spray, and sprayed it up. was all quiet untill my battery light came on, the silicone made the belt slip off, taking out all the other belts and destroying the nylon pully. so i got towed home in a car with a totally flat battery that needed its ignition on for the brakes and steering to work properly because they where both electronically assisted....and it was dark!

DOH!

my biggest heart wrench is that, with my show car sitting in storage since july 08, a few months back i thought id start it up, the tailgate was up leaning against the up lift garage door (a rag between) started the car but left it in gear by mistake, car has julted forward scratching the tailgate, its not like i can get it resprayed as the respray alone cost me £2k

so next time you see it at a show, please dont look at my tailgate

wondering why I was down on power for a few weeks then looking at the throttle cable, pulling it and realised the throttle butterfly would only open half way when the pedal was to the floor. I was the last person to touch it all as I cleaned the throttle body out :embarassed:

Also I forgot to take the fuel pump fuse out while I was taking the injectors out one evening. Took injectors in doors overnight, came out next day, opened the drivers door and heard the fuel pump prime followed by a strong smell of fuel

a few years ago, we had an old bay window camper. i went out to start her up after her winter lay up and could not get her to start. after a 5 mins of trying battery went flat. so i removed it to charge overnight then tried the next day. checked fuel was ok, checked spark plug leads were fitted ok so couldn't work out why she wouldn't start. battery went flat again so removed for overnight charge. next day i tried again and still no go. i gave up at this point and went to tidy garage out. after a few hours of spring cleaning the garage i noticed a rotor arm on one of the top shelves. then it hit me. i had removed said rotor arm the previous year to stop some scrote nicking my precious van. what a tit!

whilst doing an oil change on my mk2 at work one day, i poured 4 litres of castrol premium oil straight through the engine into the nearly full catch tank, cue lots of rags and an engine refilled with mostly old oil. the oil stain is still there to this day, 5 years on!

The only stupid thing I have done, I was under my old xr3i, taking the last bolts out to remove the alternator, and it slipped out of my hands and fell straight on my face, I did say ouch that jolly hurt, or words to that effect lol, my friends found it highly amusing
