I can recommend AP coilovers. Excellent handling, ride is stiff but not crashy or harsh at all, price is good too. The only complaint I have is that they don't go low enough but that depends on your definition of low. I'm coming from a mk3 and mk3s drop to the floor with ease  I'm as low as I can go on the front coilovers and still have a 1 finger gap.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

Cheers buddy
Yer I want it low but not sat on the floor as it's my misses daily and isn't great at driving at the best of times and she has speed humps (mountains) at work and she will rip the bumper off I'm sure but want it low enough so it don't look like it's a 4x4
Have u got a link the website not to worry if not
Thanks for your help

www.venommotorsport.com should sell AP coilovers. I bought mine from an Irish dealer. Speed bumps shouldn't be an issue if you keep a 1 finger gap, maybe a little more depending on your splitter and if you slow down for bumps or not.

I would just go for springs if you just want to get rid of the massive arch gap, doesn't effect the handling either that way, so won't feel weird for your wife when she drives it!
