16v engine tuning?
« on: 16 April 2005, 16:01 »
I'm doing my brakes & suspension within two weeks on my mk3 16v,

I'll be then hungry and ready for more power. What is the order of work for a decent engine tune and approx. bhp (and cost!)

ie,
induction kit  +1 bhp?
exhaust        + 5 bhp?
chip             + 20 bhp?
...etc.

Not price it up yet but I was expecting the £350 sort of price including rolling road set-up.

Places near me are:

ABP in Crewe (Superchips dealer I think) ...I always think everything there is a little overpriced though.
or AP Performance in Leek, Staffordshire (which is where I work so 5 mins down the road)
Probably one or two other places around Macclesfield, I'm not sure.

Will be in about 6 weeks time after my hols and everything + I've spent far too much dosh this month, doing everything else on the old Golf!
I only originally bought it as a cheap runaround!

This is AP Performance website, I've heard good things about them but never been there before. http://www.ap-performance.com/

Their Audi project car, below, for sale which I see some mornings going to work.

If you look at the bodykits page, they do some wicked golf kits. The full range.

Small World !!!

I live in Buxton, work in Leek.

To be honest, I don't know much about the TT or AP performance but will take a trip down there at Leekbrook in a few weeks to have a chat.

I'm certainly no trained mechanic but through experience can do most things on cars, and have built and been mechanic with a mk2 Escort (with 150bhp 16v Vauxhall) rally car. Helping my mate soon do a Dimma Pug 205 conversion with Scooby engine and floorpan!  I've spent loads of time on the Golf just this last week fitting soundproof, stereo, brakes, bushes, gaskets, etc and sorting out little problems.

If u see it next it will be on Audi S-line 17's, lowered and private plate '295 EPG'. Plate doesn't mean anything, just picked it up cheap for less than £300 transferred.

Only trouble is, our green GTI's will look too much alike soon! ...time for a re-spray!!!

Buxton, some wicked road up there... drive them all the time cos i'm at uni in sheffield!

My gti's purple so we shouldn't have a prob... unless you're respraying your purple?!

Just rang ABP in crewe, £305 fitted (superchip) but no rollers...The guy said i wouldn't need to have it set up, how can it be set up propperly if its not put on rollers? Think i'll make the journey to Oxford to AmD Technik

Yeah plenty of top notch roads around here, too many bikers and Derbyshire thingystabulary to watch out for though!

Maybe he's right, in theory, about the setup but I've never trusted ABP, couple of minor bad experiences with them with parts, but I can't slag them off too much really. Think they'd be alright installing a superchip. What BHP, etc does it give? I definatly want over 170bhp cos my cars too slow at the moment (well I'd like over 200 really! not asking much)
