Indeed, with Netbooks you get what you pay for.  £300 or so will get you a nice slow Atom processor.  If you want a good netbook spent about £700/£800 on a Sony one.  Or, spend about £400 on a proper laptop.

The girlfriends wants it only for some light Photoshop use, some word/PowerPoint and net/music/films. She wants one as its small, good battery life and cheaperthan a laptop.

I wouldn't even attempt to use a Netbook for Photoshop mate, they're no where near up to the task.

Rather get a cheap laptop than a netbook in that case. Curry's are selling a Compaq that's sure to be faster for £299

Spending limit is £280. She's got her heart set on a netbook and Photoshop is the only thing she's going to be using on it thats worrying me.

Photoshop will be a mare to use, be a good boy friend and plump up £20 for her

I'd go Samsung as well.  The spec's they do won't blow any other manufacturer out of the water, but Samsung's have excellent battery life and seem to be build really well.  I dropped my old one countless times and it was still fine.

It's worth noting that Netbooks are only going to do exactly what they're named, net stuff, and pretty slowly.  All the netbooks with the Atom processors are just too slow.  You're going to want to throw it through a window trying to get one to cope with Windows Vista or 7.

Not true my samsung n510 coped with hd 3d games  photoshop and a lot more depends what your willin to pay but there are a few netbooks not to mention the alienware which are small and powerfull

But what jay said is true a actual laptop is a better choice as they are more powerfull for the same price

Guys don't get me wrong, if I was in need of a portable pc I'd get a laptop! But she doesn't want a laptop, she wants a netbook due to size (she can put it in her handbag and go to uni without carrying a big bag with a laptop.

She's not interested in games, literally watching films, some word and some photoshop is all she's going to use the netbook for.
