oil in spark plugs

when i was changing the spark plugs yesterday in my mk4 1.4 i noticed that there was a small amount of oil round the spark plugs, any idea what this could be?

On a 1.8t the cause is the inner cam cover gasket which causes the plugs to get soaked in oil, not too sure about the 1.4 cam cover configuration, but It might be worth you looking at the gasket first.
