General views on a VR6

i have just bought a vr6 and i love it,the sound of that engine is just to nice,i have had 6 pot beemers and there not a patch on these vr's for sound,i think they drink fuel when driven stupidly my trip usually says 14-15 mpg,but on the motorway taking it easy just under 3k doing 70 it read 32 mpg which i think is ok for a 2.8 v6

brought mine bout 18 months ago and still havent driven it.lol
its sittin down my mates at the mo,bout 4 foot in the air as were replacing every thing
bay has also been smoothered and engine has been rebuilt
cant wait to get her on the road

I have an r reg highline. I really enjoy it. The sound is lovely, so smooth with heaps of torque.
My driving varies, the long term mpg is 30.4mpg and when on a long country
Run I get 37/8.
At first I thought the computer over read but actually it seems pretty spot on, tank seems to last and last.
When I fill the tank tue needle doesn't move for ages pike in most cars. When it does move it seems to shoot down to the quarter very quickly where it seems to stay for a long long time.

I like scooby's a lot especially the great noise of that flat four but it kind of spoils it if you have to drive everywhere watching the fuel gauge, this is why is sing the praises of the mk3 8v so much, it's a good compromise if you don't have money to burn.

I wouldn't compare a 8v gti to a 2.0 turbo rally bred very *friendly* person lol

No, there is no comparison, i was just thinking out loud that if you are worried about the price of fuel maybe an impreza isn't the best car to buy, or a VR for that matter.

in finland parts are much cheaper for vr6 german car then a jap car

everyone has jap cars here,not many nice looking vr6s about

i have a vr6 and love it,no matter how much it drinks

if i put it in 5 gear it drinks less
but i just love overtaking 1.4 and 1.6 cars
anything over 2.0l turbo then im f**ked

I'm on the lookout for a nice VR6 to replace my 8v GTI that I took as part exchange. Golfs have really grown on me, gave 250 quid for the Golf with a years test and 6 months tax against my 106 GTI, spent a tenner on new ARB bushes, 20 quid on tracking and got a part-worn tyre fitted and both fronts balance for 25 quid and it's now done 3000 miles including 1100 miles to Cornwall and back this week with no issues! I just need more power 

What is the mpg really like on the VR? My mate has a Vento VR6 and says he gets 180 miles to 60 quid which I work out to be about 17 mpg, when he does mainly dual carriageway 60-70 mph runs and takes it pretty easy most of the time, but I'm sure there's something wrong with his, when he boots it he gets single figures! I know it's a 2.8 but those are small block V8 mpg figures

Real MPG on a VR6......

Around town with short journeys.....22.5-24mpg

On a good A road with not breaking the speed limit..... 28-30mpg

Motorway driving at 70mph.....34mph

Hard driving, well it can drop down to 15-16mpg

Overall after a month with town driving, A roads, Motorways, hard driving and 1,046 miles covered MFA is showing 24.9mpg.

They are such great fun and the noise is just fantastic.  They are good for 146mph  (Speedo will show over 150mph though!)  and 0-60 in the low 7's.

Highly recommend one for the price they are going for these days

Cheers mate, good advice that. I think I'll go for it, always loved the wolf in sheeps clothing thing they have, no-one expects a mk3 Golf to shift like that

a vr6 is like driving a fat b!tch chasing a cream cake! will do anything for that cake with a bit of persuasion! and eats alot of them! but wouldn't change the car for the world!

Had my VR for around 4 weeks or so now..... LOVE IT!!!!
driving VERY reserved I can get about 28-29mpg but to get the most out of the car you have to drive it hard and I get about 22-25mpg.
TBH I dont give a sh!te about the mpg, I absolutly luv driving it and I have a heavy boot 
When driven properly it REALLY shifts, left an early leon cupra the other day and it put a big fecking smile on my face  (not a cupra R by the way, the 180 standard cupra)
My advise........ Go buy one now
