Not sure if anyone has posted this up here before but randomly stumbled upon this and made for an interesting read.

From How Many Left

Golf2 16V - 3184
Pug 306 Rallye - 349
Pug 306 Rallye & GTI-6 - 2995

Says a lot about the popularity and durability of the Golf vs the French clutter that even with an additional 10 years on the age of the vehicle there are still more Golf2 GTIs about than 306 GTIs and Rallyes.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Where did you get the figures from DH?

Just goes to show what top machines the mk2's are in 16v guise or any other.

Them 306 and the 205 were best pugs ever made. the mk2 16v should really be compared to the older 309 gti because the 306 is newer .
Someone might correct me but the 205 and 309 1.9gti were good but burnt oil if drove aggressivly. (not as bullet proof as the mk2 )
A good read though, cheers

It dont matter how many bells, whistles or sh!t you put on a french car it will always be a tarted up french car that has bad electrics, dodgy head gaskets, poor quality plastics and parts that are in stupidly hard to get at places. Yes they were quick cars in there day and every body banged on about there handling but they all forgot to mention the terible lift off over steer on both the 205 and 306 the Mk2 golf is a much better car in the way its made the quality of parts and the predictability of its handling.

Tried moving to the french hatches but they just feel crap, flimsy and girly. Even the newer ones.
Test drove a 306 gti 6 a few years ago but it was a shed, even compared to the rusty mk3 i had at the time.
Have to be honest though the 306 did really go some, absolutely screamed along.
