Get the HTC Sensation, it's the new/better version of the Desire HD.

I've got the desire HD, awesome phone. As said, the Sensation is the newer one, though not all networks are supplying it just yet.

You'll drain the battery quick as all settings will be set to cook your battery, but after a few adjustments, plus the novelty wearing off, I can get two days with moderate browsing.

GF has a desire HD and i have iPhone4

HATE using her phone in comparison, it's all so fiddley compared to the iPhone.
I'm an IT technician and part of my job is configuring handsets on our mail server so it's not like i'm just being retarded.

maybe i'm getting lazy though

I'm interested to hear how it's fiddly.

Auto sync off, wifi and 3g off unless using it. There's a handy widget that you can keep on your screen so that you don't need to trawl through menus for it.
