Federal RS-R's
« on: 06 August 2011, 12:48 »
Seems a few peeps over on MX-5 nutz are raving about these as an alternative to the R888's. At £75 a corner they're 25% cheaper as well.

Got some on my Clio - pretty good, especially for the money.

Don't think they are quite as good in the dry as 888s, the tread is 6.5mm from new though and more spaced out which I think explains it.

In the wet they are fantastic, clear water pretty well, I've even had the instructor comment on how good they were in pissing rain at Cadwell.

I've put about 380 track miles through mine and they are down to about 4mm up front and 5mm at the rear. Would defo buy more at what I paid for them (£65+vat I think)!

Yeah, I try and drive very 'cleanly' though, which definitely helps the wear. I haven't got that much to compare with, only some Dunlop DJ01s I had on my mk3 GTi, but I would say they are 'very good' in the dry (as opposed to great) but seem to be better than 888s/A048s in the wet.

good tyres, used them on everything from 100bhp mx5s to 500bhp scoobies. The last few years federal have been sponsoring the mx5 cup + other jap clubman series such as the nippon challenge, mr2 series etc.
